Fritters With Taro Roots/Man Kochur Bora/Snacks

Hi Friends,

Today I am sharing with you a delicious fritters recipe made with Taro root. It is a simple Bengali recipe, very quick and easy to prepare and with few ingredients. It is a awesome dish can be served as a starter/snacks or as a first item for lunch with steamed rice.

Cooking time – 30 minutes. Serve – 4

Ingredients –

1.Taro root – 300 grams.

2.Flour – 1 cup.

3.Corn flour – 1/2 cup.

4.Garlic cloves – 2 (crushed)

5.Red chilly powder – 1/4 tsp.

6. Turmeric – a pinch.

7.Salt to taste.

8.Sugar – a pinch.

9.Nigella seeds (kalojeera) – 1/2 tsp.

10.Lemon juice – 2 tsp.

11.Oil for deep frying.

12.Baking soda – a pinch.

Instructions –

Take the root, peel the skin off and cut into halves(lengthwise). Take one portion, cut into thin slices (half -circle). Immerse all the slices in water for 10 minutes. Take out the slices from water . Place a pan on heat, add 2 to 3 cups of water, 1 tsp.of salt and lemon juice. Now add the taro slices and boil for 3 to 4 minutes. transfer to a colander,keep aside.

Take flour (maida) in a large mixing bowl. To this add corn flour(or rice flour), kalojeera,garlic,chilly,turmeric,salt,sugar and baking soda. Mix all the dry ingredients. Add water and make a batter. Beat the batter very well.

Heat oil in a frying pan. When it is hot reduce the heat. Take one slice,dip in the batter and dro into the hot oil. Fry on slow heat until brown on both sides. Increase the heat,take out the fried slice from the oil, keep on paper towel. Fry 2 to 3 slices at a time.

Delicious Taro-Root Fritters is ready, serve hot.
