Dumur–Chingri Recipe/Wild Indian Figs With Shrimp

Today I am sharing with you a delicious side dish recipe made with Dumur and Shrimp. It is a traditional Bengali recipe and very popular in West Bengal and Bangladesh. It is a simple dish,quick and easy to prepare and very tasty to eat. It is a dry dish and can be served with rice or roti.

Cooking time – 40 minutes.  Serve – 4

Ingredients –

1.Dumur – 500 grams.

2.Shrimp – 250 grams.(Cleaned and washed)

3.Dry red chilly – 1.

4.Bay leaves – 2

5.Tomato – 1 (chopped)

6.Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp.

7.Chilly powder – 1/2 tsp.

8.Cumin powder – 1/2 tsp.

9.Coriander powder – 1/2 tsp.

10.Salt to taste.

11.Sugar – 1 tsp.

12.Slit green chilly – 4.

13.Oil – 6 tbsp.

14.Ghee – 1 tbsp.

15.Garam masala powder – 1/2 tsp.

Method –

1.Wash the figs well and cut into halves. By adding 1 tsp.of salt boil the figs for 4 to 5 minutes and drain. Allow then to cool. Discard all the seeds. Wash again. Using 1 cup of water grind to a paste. You can mash them also. Keep aside.

2.Heat 2 tbsp.of oil in a frying pan,add the shrimps. Fry for 1 minute on both sides. Take out from the pan,keep aside.

3.Add 4 tbsp.of oil in the same pan. When hot add red chilly and cumin seeds. When the cumin looks brown add bay leaves and chopped tomato. Saute for 1 minute. Add chilly,cumin,coriander and turmeric powders and 1/2 cup of water. saute for 2 minutes. Add the mashed figs, mix well. Saute for 4 to 5 minutes. Add 1 cup of water,sugar,salt,fried shrimps and green chilly. Cook till all the water evaporates (stir occasionally).

Remove pan from the heat. Mix ghee and garam masala powder. Cover the pan,give 10 minutes standing time. Delicious Dumur-Chingri is ready,serve with plain rice or roti.
