A Non-Spicy Side Dish–Taro Root Curry/Gathi Kochur Torkari.

Hi Friends,

Today I am sharing with you a very simple side dish recipe made with Taro-root. It is a traditional Bengali recipe, non-spicy and very quick and easy to prepare and with few ingredients.It is a healthy dish for everyone and can be served with rice/roti and paratha.

Cooking time 30 minutes Serve – 4

Ingredients –

1.Taro root – 500 grams.

2.Garlic cloves – 4.

3.Green chilly – 4

4.Dry red chilly – 1

5.Cumin seeds – 1/2 tsp.

6.Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp.

7.Turmeric powder – a pinch.

8.Salt to taste

9.Sugar – 1/4 tsp.

10.Oil – 2 tbsp.

Instructions——

Take the roots,peel the skin off. Using 1/2 tsp.of salt boil them until soft. Transfer to a colander. Grind garlic and green chilly into a paste. Keep aside. Heat oil in a frying pan, add dry red chilly and fry till brown. Add cumin seeds. When the cumin looks brown, add mustard seeds. When it splutters add the boiled Taro-roots. Stir for 2 to 3 minutes. Add garlic-chilly paste,turmeric,salt,sugar and 1/2 cup of water. Saute for 3 to 4 minutes.Add 1 cup of water ,cover the pan and cook until the roots are cooked well(stir in between).

Remove pan from the heat, give 5 minutes standing time. Tasty and healthy Taro-Root curry is ready to serve. You can garnish with slit green chilly.
