`Kholisha Fish Recipe/Kholshe Macher Jhal

Today I am posting a delicious fish gravy recipe made with Kholshe mach. It is a rare fish, found in small rivers,canals,beels and ponds. The fish is very tasty, you can make different types of dish with the fish. I prepared a fantastic fish gravy recipe with Kholshe mach and eggplant(begun). The recipe is very simple, you need only few ingredients. The recipe give you a thick gravy. If you want a dry dish, cook for extra few minutes on slow flame.

Cooking time – 30 minutes.  Serve – 4

Ingredients –

  1. Fish – 250 grams.
  2. Eggplant(medium) – 1(cut into pieces)
  3. Tomato (large) – 1 (chopped)
  4. Kalojeera – 1/2 tsp.
  5. Grated ginger – 1/2 tsp.
  6. Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp.
  7. Chilly powder – 1/2 tsp.
  8. Cumin powder – 1/2 tsp.
  9. Coriander powder -1/4 tsp.
  10. Salt to taste.
  11. Slit green chilly – 4
  12. Oil – 1/2 cup.
  13. Chopped coriander leaves – 4 tbsp.

Instructions –

Soak the eggplant pieces in water for 10 minutes and drain.Clean and wash the fish and marinate with 1/2 tsp. of salt and a pinch of turmeric powder. Keep aside until use. By adding 1/2 cup of water grind tomato,ginger and all the masala powders(turmeric,chilly,cumin,coriander) into a paste. Keep the masala mix aside.

Heat oil in a frying pan, once it is hot,reduce the heat. Group the fishes into 4 batches. Fry each batch till light brown in both sides. Take out them from the oil,keep aside.

Add eggplant pieces in the remaining oil, fry for 2 minutes. Take out from the oil, keep aside. Add kalojeera in the remaining oil and fry for 30 seconds. Add the masala mix, saute till oil separates. Add 2 to 3 cups of water, stir and let it brings to boil. Add the fried fish,eggplant,salt and slit green chilly. Cover the pan and cook till the gravy thickens. Remove pan from the heat,mix coriander leaves. Cover the pan,give 10 minutes standing time.

Testy Kholisha Fish Gravy is ready, serve with steamed rice.
