Nutritious Veg. Side Dish With Green Peas/Karaishutir Ghugni

Today I am sharing with you a nutritious side dish recipe made with fresh green peas. It is completely a veg. dish—tasty,healthy and very quick and easy to prepare. You need only 20 to 25 minutes to prepare this dish. In pressure cooker it takes only 15 minutes. It is delicious dish, goes well with rice,roti or paratha. It can be served as a evening snacks also. You can use frozen peas also.

Cooking time – 25 minutes.  Serve – 4

Ingredients –

  1. Fresh peas – 300 grams.
  2. Potato (large)- 1(peeled and cut into small cubes.)
  3. Cumin seeds – 1/2 tsp.
  4. Grated ginger – 1/2 tsp.
  5. Hing (asafoetida)- 1/4 tsp.(powdered).
  6. Tomato (large) – 1 (chopped)
  7. Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp.
  8. Red chilly powder – 1/2 tsp.
  9. Cumin powder – 1/2 tsp.
  10. Coriander powder – 1/2 tsp.
  11. Salt to taste
  12. Sugar – 1/2 tsp.
  13. Ghee – 1/2 tsp.
  14. Garam masala powder – 1/2 tsp.
  15. Oil – 2 tbsp.
  16. Slit green chilly – 4/5

Instructions –

Boil 3 to 4 cups water in a pan, add peas and potato cubes and boil for 2 to 3 minutes.Using a colander drain water, keep aside. Grind tomato, ginger and hing into a paste.

Heat oil in a frying pan, add cumin seeds. Fry till light brown. Add the hing paste, saute for 1 minute. Add all the masala powders (turmeric,chilly,cumin, coriander) and 1/2 cup of water. Stir well. Add sugar, saute till the raw smell of the masala goes off. Add the boiled peas and potato,salt and 1/2 cup of water. Saute for 2 minutes. Add 2 to 3 cups of warm water. Cover the pan and cook for few minutes. When the gravy starts thickening, remove pan from the heat. Mix ghee and garam masala powder. Cover the pan, give 10 minutes standing time.

Delicious peas curry is ready, you can garnish with chopped coriander leaves.Serve as a side dish with rice/roti or paratha.
