Today I am posting a traditional Bengali Koi mach recipe – it is Koi Mouri. It is one of the best recipe of Koi mach. It is very quick and easy to prepare and with few ingredients. It is a medium spicy dish and incredibly delicious. In this recipe I have used potato, you can omit this.
Cooking time – 30 minutes. Serve – 4.
- Koi mach – 4
- Potato – 1 (cut into 4 pieces)
- Tomato – 1 (chopped)
- Bay leaf – 1
- Fennel seeds – (2+1/2) tsp.
- Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp.
- Cumin powder – 1/4 tsp.
- Green chilly – 4
- Slit green chilly – 4
- Salt to taste.
- oil – 1/2 cup.
- Grated ginger – 1/2 tsp.
By adding 1/2 cup of water make a paste of ginger,tomato,4 green chilly and 2 tbsp.of fennel seeds together. To this mix turmeric and cumin powder. Keep the masala mix aside. Clean and wash the fish well. marinate with 1/2 tsp.of salt and a pinch of turmeric powder, keep aside until use.
Heat oil in a frying pan, when it is hot reduce the heat. Fry the fish till light brown on both sides. Take out the fried fish ,keep aside. Add 1/2 tsp.of fennel seeds and bay leaf in the remaining oil. When the fennel looks brown add the cubed potato and fry for 2 to 3 minutes. Add the masala mix, saute till oil separates. Add 2 cups of water, allow it to boil. Add the fried fish,salt and slit green chilly. Cover the frying pan and keep cooking till all the water evaporates (stir in between).
