Side Dish For Roti/Paratha–Dry Curry Of Raw Banana/Kachkola Masala.

Today I am posting a very simple side dish recipe made with raw banana. It is a dry dish, little spicy and taste good. The process of making the dish is very easy and takes few minutes to prepare. You can take it as a side dish with rice. But it goes well with roti/chapati or paratha.

Cooking time – 30 minutes.  Serve – 4

Ingredients –

  1. Raw banana – 4 (Peeled and cut into pieces)
  2. Potato (medium) – 1 (peeled and cut into small cubes)
  3. Tomato – 1(chopped)
  4. Onion – 1 (finely chopped)
  5. Ginger –garlic paste – 1 tsp.
  6. Turmeric powder –1/2 tsp.
  7. Chilly powder – 1/2 tsp.
  8. Cumin powder – 1/2 tsp.
  9. Coriander powder – 1/2 tsp.
  10. Pepper powder – 1/2 tsp.
  11. Cumin seeds – 1/2 tsp.
  12. Bay leaf – 2.
  13. Salt to taste.
  14. Sugar – 1/2 tsp.
  15. Ghee – 1 tsp.
  16. Garam masala powder – 1/2 tsp.
  17. Oil – 1 ladleful

Instructions –

Immerse the banana cubes in water for 10 minutes and drain. Grind tomato into a paste. To this add all the masala powders (turmeric,chilly,cumin,coriander,pepper), ginger-garlic paste and 1/2 cup of water. Grind again and make a smooth masala paste. Keep the masala mix aside.

Heat oil in a frying pan, add cumin seeds. Fry till light brown. Add the chopped onion. Fry till onions are light brown. Add bay leaf, banana and potato cubes. Fry in medium heat for 3 to 4 minutes. Add the masala mix,sugar and 1/2 cup of water. Saute till oil separates. Add 3 cups of water and salt. Cover the pan and keep cooking cooking till all the water evaporates (stir in between).

Remove pan from the heat, mix ghee and garam masala powder. Cover the pan,give 10 minutes standing time. Delicious masala kachkola is ready. Serve with roti/paratha.
