Pabda Fish In Rich Gravy/Pabda Macher Jhal.

Hi Friends,

Today I am sharing with you a delicious fish dish recipe made with Pabda mach. It is spicy dish and tastes awesome.k The process of making is very easy, if you had all the ingredients prepared it could be ready in 30 minutes. It is one of the best recipe of Pabda mach. It goes well with only plain rice.

Cooking time – 30 minutes.  Serve – 4

Ingredients –

  1. Pabda fish – 500 grams.
  2. Cumin seeds – 1/2 tsp.
  3. Bay leaf – 2
  4. Tomato (large) – 1(chopped)
  5. Onion (medium) – 1 (chopped)
  6. Grated ginger – 1 tsp.
  7. Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp.
  8. Cumin powder – 1/2 tsp.
  9. Red chilly powder – 1/2 tsp.
  10. Salt to taste.
  11. Slit green chilly – 4
  12. Oil – 1/2 cup.

Instructions –

Clean and wash the fish, marinate with 1/2 tsp.of salt and a pinch of turmeric powder, keep aside until use. Grind onion,ginger,tomato into a paste. To this add all the masala powders(turmeric,cumin,chilly) and 1/2 cup of water. Mix well. Keep the masala mix aside.

Heat oil in a frying pan. Fry the fish till light brown on both sides. Pabda fish is very soft, so fry one fish at a time.

Add cumin seeds in the remaining oil, fry for few seconds. When the cumin looks brown add the bay leaves. Stir and add the masala mix. Saute on slow flame till the raw smell of the masala goes off and oil separates. If needed add little water and saute for extra few minutes. Add 2 to 3 cups of water, allow it to boil. Add the fried fish,salt,slit chilly. Cover the pan and cook for 5 to 7 minutes. When the gravy starts thickening remove pan from the heat, cover and give 10 minutes standing time.

Delicious Pabda Fish Gravy is ready.Serve it as a main course dish with steamed rice.
