Today I am posting a delicious side dish recipe made with Radish. It is a very authentic Bengali recipe and very quick and easy to prepare. In Bengal it is called “Mulo Ghanto”. It is a famous preparation of Radish and very tasty to eat.It can be served with Rice/Roti or Paratha.
Cooking time – 45 minutes.  Serve – 4
Ingredients –
1.Radish (without stems and leaves) – 500 grams.
2.Potato (large) – 1 (peeled and cut into cubes)
3.Tomato – 1 (chopped)
4.Cumin seeds – 1/2 tsp.
5.Bay leaves – 2
6.Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp.
7.Chilly powder – 1/2 tsp.
8.Cumin powder – 1/2 tsp.
9.Salt to taste.
10.Sugar – 1/4 tsp.
11.Oil – 1/3 cup.
12.Ghee – 1 tbsp.
13.Garam masala powder – 1/2 tsp.
14.Slit green chilly – 4.
15.Green Peas – 1/2 cup.(boiled)
Method –
1.Scrape the Radish lightly and wash well. Using grater grate the Radish.Transfer the grated Radish to a colander to remove the juice. Then grind to a paste.Keep aside.Wash potato cubes,marinate with 1/4 tsp.of salt and a pinch of turmeric powder.
2.Heat oil in a frying pan,add cumin seeds and bay leaves.When the cumin looks brown add the potato cubes and fry for 2 minutes.Add tomato,turmeric,chilly,cumin and 1/2 cup of water.Saute till oil separates.Add the Radish paste,peas,salt,sugar and 1/2 cup of water.Mix well. Keep cooking till all the water evaporates. Add ghee,garam masala powder and slit green chilly and mix well.
Remove pan from the heat,cover and give 10 minutes standing time. Delicious Radish Curry is ready, serve with hot Rice or Roti/Paratha.
