Veg. Sweet Chana Dal With Coconut/Cholar Dal With Narikel.

Today I am sharing with you a Delicious Dal recipe made with Chana Dal (split Bengal Gram) and Coconut. It is a traditional Bengali recipe, very quick and easy to prepare in Pressure Cooker. The Dal is cooked to a thick consistency and is sweetish.

Cooking time – 30 minutes.  Serve – 4
Ingredients –
1.Chana Dal – 500 grams (soaked in water for 1 hour – it is optional)
2.Chopped Coconut – 1 cup.(1/2 Coconut)
3.Dry red chilly – 2.
4.Cumin seeds – 1 tsp.
5.Bay leaves – 2
6.Ginger paste – 1 tsp.
7.Asafoetida (Hing) – 1/4 tsp.
8.Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp.
9.Chilly powder – 1/2 tsp.
10.Cumin powder – 1/2 tsp.
11/Salt to taste.
12.Sugar – 3/4 tsp.
13.Oil – 4 tbsp.
14.Green chilly – 4
15.Ghee – 1 tsp.
16.Garam masala powder – 1 tsp.
Method –
1.By adding salt and turmeric powder boil the Dal in Pressure Cooker until tender. Transfer it to a bowl,keep aside. In a small bowl mix ginger paste and Hing, cover the bowl,keep aside.
2.Heat oil in a frying pan, add dry red chilly and fry until brown. Reduce the heat.Add cumin seeds and bay leaves.When the cumin seeds look brown add chopped coconut and fry for 1/2 minute. Add ginger-hing paste, saute for 1/2 minute. Add 1/2 cup of water,chilly and cumin powders and saute till oil separates.Add the boiled Dal,sugar and stir well. Mash the Dal slightly with the back of a ladle. Add little water if needed. Add slit green chilly and cook for 5 to 6 minutes. Check the seasoning. Remove pan from the heat,add ghee and garam masala powder,mix well. Cover the pan and give 10 minutes standing time.
Delicious Sweet Chana Dal is ready,serve with Rice/Roti/Luchi/Paratha.
