Beaten (Flattened) Rice Sweet / Bengali Dessert – Chirar Pitha

Hi Friends,
Today I am sharing with you a delicious Dessert recipe made with Beaten Rice (Chira). It is a traditional Bengali recipe and very quick and easy to prepare. It is a simple sweet but very tasty to eat and requires a few ingredients.

Cooking time – 30 minutes.  Serve – 4
Ingredients –
1.Beaten Rice – 1 cup.
2.Shredded Coconut – 1 cup.
3.Flour (maida) – 1 tbsp.
4.Cardamom powder – 1/2 tsp.
5.Sugar – 2 cups.
6.Water – 1 cup.
7.Veg.oil or Ghee for deep frying.
Method – [ Sugar syrup – Boil sugar and water in a pan. Simmer until the sugar is dissolve and the syrup is of medium thick consistency. Remove pan from heat,keep aside.]
1.Wash beaten Rice and soak in water for 7 to 8 minutes. Transfer to a strainer and press to drain out the excess water. Using Blender blend Beaten Rice and Coconut. Do not add water, the mix should be dry. Transfer it to a large bowl. To this add flour and cardamom powder, mix well. Knead the mixture to a dough. Divide the dough into balls and flatten.
2.Heat oil in a frying pan,when hot reduce the heat. Add the beaten Rice balls and fry until brown on both sides. Take out the fried balls from the oil, keep aside. Fry 3 to 4 balls at a time.
3.Warm the sugar syrup. Remove pan from the heat. Drop the fried balls into the syrup. Keep them in syrup for 1 hour. Shift the Pitha in a plate,garnish with chopped coconut/nuts and serve.
