Cabbage – Fish Head Curry/Bandha Gobi With Fish Head.

Today I am sharing with you a delicious Cabbage curry recipe made with Fish Head (Katla fish). It is a typical Bengali recipe and very tasty to eat. To this recipe you can use Rohu.Katla or any fish (big carp)  head  The process of making this curry is very easy and takes few minutes to prepare.

Cooking time – 45 minutes.  Serve – 4.
Ingredients –
1.Cabbage (medium) – 1 (washed and finely shredded)
2.Potato – 2 (peeled and cut into cubes)
3.Fish Head – 1 (cleaned and washed and cut into halves)
4.Tomato – 1 (chopped)
5.Cumin seeds – 1 tsp.
6.Bay leaves – 2
7.Garlic paste – 1/2 tsp.
8.Ginger paste – 1/2 tsp.
9.Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp.
10.Chilly powder – 1/2 tsp.
11.Cumin powder – 1/2 tsp.
12.Salt to taste.
13 Sugar – 1/2 tsp.
14.Ghee – 1 tbsp.
15.Garam masala powder – 1 tsp.
16.Oil – 1/2 cup.
17.Wheat flour – 1 tbsp.
19.Slit green chilly – 4.
Method –
1.Add the shredded cabbage to a pot of boiling water and boil for 3 to 4 minutes. Transfer to a colander and squeeze out excess water.Marinate the fish head with 1/2 tsp.of salt and a pinch of turmeric powder. Take a small bowl, add ginger,garlic,chilly,cumin,turmeric and 1/2 cup of water. Keep the masala mix aside.
2.Heat oil in a frying pan and fry the potato cubes for 2 minutes. Take out from the oil,keep aside. Add the fish head, fry until brown on both sides. Take out from oil, keep aside.
3.Add cumin seeds in the remaining oil. When the cumin looks brown add bay leaves and fry for 30 seconds. Add the fish head and masala mix, saute till oil separates. Add 1/2 cup of water and take out the fish head from the masala gravy, break into pieces and keep aside. Add the shredded cabbage and 1 tsp.of salt to the masala gravy. Saute the cabbage for 5 to 6 minutes.
4.Add the broken fish head, fried potato and mix well. Saute for 2 minutes. Add 11/2 to 2 cups of water,sugar and green chilly. Keep cooking till all the water evaporates. Sprinkle wheat flour and cook for 2 minutes with stirring continuously. Check the seasoning.
Remove pan from the heat,add ghee and garam masala powder. Mix well and cover the pan, give 10 minutes standing time. Delicious Cabbage curry is ready,serve with Rice/Roti.
