Healthy Snack – Black Chickpea (Kala Chana) Chaat

Hi friends,
Today we are going to make a healthy snack recipe made with Black Chickpea. It is a popular street food in Kolkata. It is nutritious and has unique taste. It is very easy to prepare at home.

Cooking time – 40 minutes     Serve – 4
Ingredients –
1.Black Chickpea – 100 grams (soaked in water for 12 hours.)
2.Onion – 1 (finely chopped)
3.Grated ginger – 1/2 tsp.
3.Cucumber – (chopped)
4.Tomato – 1 (chopped)
5.Green chilly – 2 (chopped)
6.Salt to taste.
7.Rock salt – a pinch.
8.Chopped coconut – 2 tbsp.(optional)
9.Roasted masala powder – 1 tbsp.(optional)
10.Lemon juice – 2 tbsp.
11.Dry red chilly – 2.
12.Oil – 1 tbsp.
Method –
1.Drain the water from the chickpeas. In a pan add the chickpeas, 4 cups of water and 1 tbsp. of salt.Boil till the chickpeas are cooked well. Add water if needed. You can use pressure cooker. Put the chickpeas,water and salt in pressure cooker, close the cooker,bring to full pressure and then reduce the heat. Cook for 20 minutes.Remove from heat and allow to cool naturally.
2.Transfer the boiled chickpeas to a strainer. Heat oil in a frying pan, add dry red chilly. Fry until brown. Add the boiled chickpeas and stir fry for 2 minutes. Remove pan from heat. Transfer the chickpeas to a bowl. To this add all the ingredients (from 2 to 9) and mix lightly. At last add lemon juice. Healthy and tasty Black chickpea Chat is ready. You can garnish it with chopped coriander leaves. Serve the dish as a evening snack.
