Tomato With Poppy Seeds/Bengali Tomato Posto

My  today’s recipe is tomato posto – a simple vegetarian side dish made with tomato and poppy seeds.It is very tasty,quick and easy to make and requires a few ingredients. You can use raw tomato instead of ripe tomato.

Cooking time – 25 minutes.   Serve – 4
Ingredients –
1.Tomato (large) – 6 (chopped)
2.Poppy seeds – 100 grams.
3.Green chilly – 4
4.Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp.
5.Curry leaves – 8-10 (optional)
6.Sugar – 1tsp.
7.Salt to taste.
8.Oil – 2 tsp.
9.Ghee – 1 tsp.(optional)
10.Green chilly (slit) – 4 (for garnishing)
Method –
1.Grind poppy seeds and green chilly with 1/2 cup of water to a smooth paste.Keep it aside.
2.Heat oil in a pan.When hot reduce the heat and add mustard seeds.When it splutters add curry leaves and fry for 1 minutes.Then add tomato pieces,saute for 3-4 minutes.
3.Add poppy seeds paste,sugar and salt,mix well and saute for 3-4 minutes.
4.Add 1/2 cup water,let it bring to boil.
5.Reduce heat and cook until the gravy is thickened.(stirring occasionally)
6.When oil starts floating on the top the gravy add ghee,mix well.
7.Remove pan from heat,cover and give 10 minutes standing time.
Tomato posto is ready to serve.Garnish with green chilly and serve as a side dish with rice/roti/paratha.
